Answer the following questions:

What were the lawyer’s rules that he never permitted himself to break?
Why didn’t he give himself an easy time? Does it prove that he was a strong-willed person or was it just his routine?
What is meant by Jake’s “attacking” the morning? Describe his lifestyle.
Being a white-collar why did he regularly drop in at the black café?
Why was Jake allowed to frequent the coffee shop? Why did the blue collars accept him?
What was the atmosphere in the coffee shop like?
What was more important for Jake: his job or his family? Give your reasons.

Find English equivalents for the following and use them in sentences of your own:

Paraphrase or explain:

Replace the words in bold type by their opposites. Make all necessary changes:

Replace Russian words by their English equivalents:
