В английском языке после многих глаголов в активном залоге употребляется так называемый “объектный инфинитивный оборот”. Он представляет собой синтаксическую группу Сложное дополнение, которая состоит из существительного в общем падеже или местоимения в объектном падеже и инфинитива. В русском языке такого оборота нет, поэтому он переводится дополнительным придаточным предложением. существительное + инфинитив Пример. We know the pressure to decrease as altitude increases. Мы знаем, что давление понижается по мере того, как увеличивается высота. Еще одна конструкция – “субъектный инфинитивный оборот” – это сочетание существительного в общем падеже (или местоимения в именительном падеже) с инфинитивом. В предложении этот оборот выполняет функцию сложного подлежащего. Такие конструкции переводятся сложноподчиненным преложением: главное предложение в нем выражено неопределенным оборотом типа говорят, сообщают и т.д., за которым следует придаточное предложение, присоединяющееся к главному посредством союза что. существительное + инфинитив Пример: The prices for oil are expected to fall. Ожидается, что цены на нефть упадут. Другой способ перевода – простое предложение с вводным неопределенно-личным оборотом типа как известно, как казалось и т.п. существительное + инфинитив Пример: These measures are known to increase the efficiency. Как известно, эти меры увеличивают производительность. Упражнение. По форме герундий совпадает с причасием I. Отличие между герундием и причастием I заключается в том, что герундий наряду с глагольными свойствами обладает свойствами существительного, в то время как причастие I – это неличная форма глагола, по своими свойствами близкая к прилагательному.Поэтому функции герундия в предложении будут отличаться от функций причастия I. Например, герундий может быть в предложении подлежащим или дополнением (как и существительное). Но с другой стороны, Герундий и Причастие I выполняют и сходные функции – определение, обстоятельство и др. В русском языке нет формы, соответствующей Герундию, поэтому он переводится разными способами, а именно: отглагольным существительным, инфинитивом, деепричастием и др. Примеры. 1.Carryng this test successfully was possible thanks to the careful investigation of outstanding scientists (подлежащее). Успешное проведение этого испытания стало возможным благодаря тщательному исследованию выдающихся ученых. 2.His main occupation was watching the operation of the equipment (именная часть сказуемого). Основным его занятием было наблюдать за работой оборудования. 3.They kept varying over and over again the dimensions of the condenser plates.(часть составного сказуемого) Они снова и снова продолжали менять размеры конденсаторных пластин. 4.Nowadays engineers prefer using semi – conductors to generate heat and cold (дополнение). В настоящее время инженеры предпочитают использовать полупроводники для получения тепла и холода. 5.Various methods of cooling transformers are adopted in practice. (определение). В практике применяются различные методы охлаждения трансформаторов. 6.We increase the resistance of metals by raising their temperature. (обстоятельство) Мы увеличиваем сопротивление металлов путем повышения их температуры. Упражнение. Герундий с предшествующими ему существительным или местоимением. Действие, выраженное одной из форм герундия, не всегда относится к подлежащему или дополнению предложения. Оно может относиться к лицу (или предмету), обозначенному существительным в притяжательном падеже или притяжательным местоимением, которое стоит перед герундием. Такая конструкция представляет собою сложный член предложения – сложное подлежащее, дополнение, определение или обстоятельство. Такие герундиальные обороты переводятся на русский язык, как правило, придаточным предложением соответствующего вида. Пример. On the buyer’s paying only part of the amount of the invoice (фактура) we cannot insist on the contract being signed immediately. (сложное обстоятельство и сложное дополнение). Когда покупатель оплачивает только часть суммы фактуры, мы не можем настаивать на том, чтобы контракт был подписан немедленно. Упражнение. Переведите предложения на русский язык, обращая внимание на перевод герундиальных оборотов. 1.The explanation lies in the product being more stable. 2.We insisted on their being offered favourable terms of payment. 3.The possibility of ethylene being converted into aromatic hydrocarbons is slight. 4.He objected to the goods being payed in advance. 5.A theory of solids must therefore enable the crystal form and elastic properties of any solid substance being deduced from the properties of the atoms of which it is built. 6.By having the correct interpole strength it is possible to obtain sparkless commutation. 7.Common practice for coal mines is to generate their own power at varying voltages and frequencies. 7. Многофункциональные слова Следующие слова обладают способностью выполнять различные функции в предложении: that (those), one (ones), it. В связи с этим они переводятся на русский язык по-разному. That (those , мн. ч.) Примеры. 1.He perfomed that part of the work efficiently. (указательное местоимение) - Он успешно выполнил эту часть работы. 2.That steel does not expand on solidification is a well known fact (союз) - То, что сталь не расширяется при затвердении, хорошо известно. 3.All bodies consist of molecules and those of atoms (слово- заместитель) - Все тела состоят из молекул, а молекулы из атомов. 4.Show us the wire that must be used in the system.(союзное слово) - Покажите нам провод, который надо использовать в системе. That употребляется также в эмфатическом обороте it is (was)… that (who) для выделения одного из членов предложения. На русский язык that в таких предложениях не переводится, а все сложноподчиненное эмфатическое предложение переводится простым предложением, начинающимся словами именно, только. Пример. It was in the field of electronics that the development of physics ran parallel with that of industry. - Именно в области электроники развитие физики шло параллельно с развитием промышленности. Упражнение. Определите функцию that и переведите предложения на русский язык. 1.The load being reapplied, the deflections were similar to those in the first test. 2.The fact is that our era began with the discovery of the electric current. 3.The mixture is identical with that mentioned above. 4.The transmission of information by radio waves requires that some specific installations be employed. 5.Energy that is produced by hydroelectric stations is used for industry, agriculture and other needs of national economy. 6.The problems that confront the operator of a diffusion plant are essentially the same as those met by any operator. 7.This fact suggested the idea that the electron possesses only “electromagnetic mass”. 8.It was one of the questions that the comission had to settle before starting new experiments in this field. 9.That age brought with it a revolution in old technical values. 10.The existence of free electrones in metals is as important as that in oxides. It Примеры. 1.If the valve in the cylinder moves too easily, it should be replaced immediately. Определите функцию one и переведите предложения на русский язык. 1.One should know that the weight of an oxygen atom is 16 times that of a hydrogen atom. 2.To facilitate the assembly of the small units into more complex ones in the workshop, it is advisable that the units should be based on a common dimention. 3.It is found that for the best food quality the keeping time should be between one and two days. 4.One can suppose that the air is warmed by the sun but not directly by the sun’s rays. 5.All the cargo but one case arrived undamaged. 6.A centrifugal pump can give only a half of the efficiency of a modern one. 7.Wood is the richest source of cellulose as more than one half of its substance is cellulose fibre. 8.Instruments based on this principle have been described, but the method now universally employed in accurate work is an electrical one. 9.All but one plant were renovated. 10.The letters “alpha”, “beta”, “gamma” used to denote kind of rays are Greek ones. 8.Некоторые случаи перевода отдельных союзов и предлгов Whether. 1.Союз whether соответствует русскому ли, вводит придаточные предложения и занимает место перед подлежащим предложения, тогда как в русском языке союз ли следует за сказуемым. Перевод придаточного дополнительного предложения, вводимого союзом whether, следует начинать с глагола – сказуемого, помещая за ним частицу ли. Примеры. 1.It is not clear whether the agreement will be signed this week. - Еще не ясно, будет ли соглашение подписано на этой неделе. 2.It is difficult to establish whether this problem can be solved at all. - Трудно установить, можно ли вообще решить эту проблему. 2.Whether часто преводится будь то. Пример. In any element whether it is copper or gold electrons are always in motion. - В любом элементе, будь то медь или золото, электроны всегда находятся в движении. 3.Иногда whether переводится независимо от. While on his visit to London the director signed several contracts. – Во время своей поездки в Лондон директор подписал несколько контрактов. В причастных оборотах, имеющих уступительное значение, while либо не переводится, либо преводится хотя и. Пример. While conceding that buyers from many countries were active on the London tin market, the press is unanimous in that the bulk of the purchases was made by the Americans. - (Хотя и) признавая, что на Лондонском рынке олова активность проявляли покупатели из многих стран, пресса все же единодушна в том, что основная масса закупок была произведена американцами. Whereas. Союз whereas переводится по-разному в зависимости от контекста. В одних случаях он, так же, как и союз as, может означать тогда как, а в других случаях он переводится принимая во внимание, поскольку, так как. Пример. Whereas upon examination the machines were found to be in good order, we expect you to act as it was provided by the contract. - Поскольку при осмотре было обнаружено, что машины исправлены, мы ожидаем, что вы будете действовать так, как было предусмотрено договором.
