Общий падеж

Поскольку сущ. в общем падеже не имеет специальных окончаний, его отношение к другим словам, при отсутствия предлога, определяется исключительно место, занимаемым им в предложении. Существительное ,стоящее перед сказуемым, является подлежащим и соответствует в русском языке существительному в именительном падеже.

Of +сущ. чего, кого? родительному падеж The leg of the tables is broken

Сущ.+to дательный (кому? чему?) I showed the book to the teacher.

By + сущ. творительный (кем?) The cup was broken by Pete.

With+ сущ. (чем?)I opened the tin with a knife.

Of, about предложный (с предлогам о или об ) What are you thinking of?

Притяжательный падеж

Для обозначения принадлежности предмета какому-либо лицу в английском языке употребляется специальная, так называемая притяжательная форма существительного.

Существительное в единственном числе в притяжательной форме принимает окончание ‘s. The girl’s hat

Притяжательный падеж составных существительных образуется путем прибавления окончания-‘s к последнему слову. The commander-in-chief’s order

Когда два лица или более являются обладателями одного и того же предмета, окончание притяжательного падежа прибавляется к последнему существительному.

Pete and Helen’s flat is large.

Когда существительное, определяемое существительным в притяжательном падеже, имеет при себе другие определения, то существительное в притяжательном падеже стоит перед ними: the student’s new dictionary, Kate’s best friends.

если два существительных в притяжательной форме (He is my sister’s husband’s father.) правильно he is the father of my sister’s husband. Он отец мужа моей сестры.

Существительное во множественном числе в притяжательной форме прибавляет только апостроф ’. The boys’ hands were cold.

Если существительное во множественном числе в притяжательной форме не имеет окончания s, то в притяжательной форме принимает окончание ‘s. The children’s toys were is the box.

Притяжательная форма иногда употребляется с сущ. И наречиями, обозначающими время и расстояние he had a month’s holiday last summer. Have you read today’s newspaper?

Притяжательная форма применяется также с названиями стран, городов, судов и со словами world, country, city, ship, party, army, family: he is the world’s best high-jumper.

Слова house, office, shop опускаются после существительное в притяжательной форме

I dined at my friend’s. имеется в виду my friend’s house

Притяжательная форма иногда употребляется с существительными и наречиями обозначающими время и расстояние. A five minutes’ walk.

We had two week’s holiday in Spain. We had a two-week holiday.

The five-year plan,, a ten-year girl, a ten-pound note

Если предмет как одно целое. The roof of the house. The title of the novel.

Слова house, shop часто опускаются после существительного в притяжательной форме. We shall meet at my friend’s (house).

next door- по соседству, рядом

Сравнение при помощи союзов.

than – чем He can draw better than I can.
as…as – такой же….как… It is as broad as it is long. As wet as a fish.
not so …as.. – не такой ….,как… The Moskva river is not so long as the Volga.
the…the…- чем…,тем… the sooner the better The less we know, the more we suspect.

Adjectives: word order ( a nice house)

New, large, round, wooden = fact adjectives.

(give us information about smth age, size, colour..)

Nice, beautiful= opinion adjectives

(tell us someone thinks of smth.)

Opinion adjectives usually go before fact adjectives.

if there are two or more fact adjectives we put fact adjective in this order.
